Grappling in HEMA can be quite dangerous if you mess up your footwork. Got my knee twisted in a throw and am now grounded for a while, dealing with an injured ligament and resulting inflammation. Fortunately no permanent damage but definitely a painful lesson.

How to have a better chance of preventing such mishaps:
1.) Practice proper stances, steps and body posture frequently
2.) Avoid high intensity sparring before you've mastered the basics
3.) Don't skip or shorten your warmup and stretching routine
4.) Be cautious with grappling, do throws and joint locks in a slow-controlled manner first before attempting free play
