My Reaction to YouTube's New Commenting System as of 11/5/2013
3/24/2014 Update: Since it's been a while since the new commenting system was implemented to YouTube, I actually got used to it now. I also got used to it before this update. But I'll keep the old description so you can see what I thought of it before.
This sums up my whole reaction with the new commenting system for YouTube as of 11/5/2013. I mean, who the fuck thought this was a good idea to change it this way? In fact, who's the dumbass who's running YouTube who's also part of Google? Whoever it is, they need to be replaced with someone who's more respectful towards the users. This was all probable because of the fact that Google wanted Google+ to have more attention, so they forced us to link our YouTube accounts with our Google+ account. How did they do this? The changed the comment sections on channels and videos and if you try to comment without connecting your YouTube account with your Google+ account, it will ask you to connect your account with Google+ with an annoying-ass window. If you don't do what the pop-up says, then you can NOT comment at all. So when you finally connect your YouTube account, you get a hideous new menu that shows unnecessary menu features. For instance, the Inbox button is gone from the menu now. You CAN indeed still view it by taking a certain path, but when you get there, you find out something horrendous. You get this message:
"Most comment notifications will now be delivered by Google+ and not to your inbox. Learn more"
That means that the inbox will no longer let you know when new comments come in. Isn't that great? Ha ha, NO! To make it worse, if you don't disconnect your Google+ account within the next 14 days, it apparently stays permanently that way. Also, comments that existed before this whole thing, guess, what? You can't do jack shit to them at all, not even reply to them! So that's also bugged as well. The new comment section is all cluttered as well as a huge mess. People predict that more changes in the future will make things worse, and I have a very bad feeling that they're right. Google also apparently never listens to their feedback for YouTube, so why do they even allow feedback if they won't fucking listen to it? In fact, Google just kept fucking it up since the new layouts and shit. They all keep pissing us off with shitty changes that they like but most of us hate. Out of all of the shitty changes they did, they really outdid themselves on this one. If they keep this shit up, then they're bound to kill YouTube and piss us all off.
However, a nice thing about the new comment section is that it has formatting as well as being able to link stuff from all over the web. I also love how you can edit comments as well in case you make a mistake you want to fix. As for the unlimited characters, I'm not too sure about that because there are people who could abuse that. If I were to accept this new commenting system then I would at least like Google to do these things:
-Fix the error that doesn't let you do anything to comments (especially how you cannot reply to them) that existed before this whole new commenting system by updating the comments to the current putrid-ass system
-Have the Inbox inform us about new comments again, or at least have an easier way to see them on Google+
-Add the Inbox to the YouTube menu bar again
-Control the comment threads in a way that would satisfy us
So let's hope Google can at least fix this if they refuse to change the comments section back the way it was so we can at least be happy in one way.
Here's a petition I found that could revert the comments back to its original form. I know a lot of people don't believe in the power of petitions but it's worth a shot:
Link removed for now due to rumors of people getting suspended for linking the petition until further notice.
