My Thoughts On The Song/Chart: Quite possibly the most tragic and poignant Weezer song to date, and a B side to "Undone The Sweater Song" And would later appear on the Deluxe Edition of "The Blue Album" This song was written for two Hardcore Weezer fans and friends of band during their early years.

In mid-1997, during the latter portion of the Pinkerton tour, the sisters would make a point to show up at as many shows as possible, meeting with fan clubbers. After a July show in Colorado, the sisters (along with their younger sister Trysta) tragically died in a car accident.

The sisters got several tributes to them in the form of songs after their passing from bands such as Jimmy Eat World with "Hear You Me" from 2001's Bleed American and Black Market Flowers with the same title as the Weezer Song. Weezer's song however was written much before their passing and is strangely quite prophetic to what would later happen.

Weezer dedicated 2001's The Green Album to the Allans' memory. The band has also since mentioned the sisters on numerous occasions, including during shows, in memorabilia, and on social media.

Song Facts:
"Mykel and Carli" (originally known as "To Mykel and Carli (From a High School Friend)", is a song by Weezer, first released in 1994 as a B-side to "Undone - The Sweater Song." It later appeared as the first track on the compilation Dusty Gems & Raw Nuggets (originally released as a pack-in with the deluxe release of The Blue Album) and then as a bonus track on iTunes and vinyl editions of Death to False Metal.

"Mykel and Carli" is a reworking of an earlier Rivers Cuomo demo titled "Please Pick Up the Phone," written in February of 1993. Cuomo originally lifted the chords from the song "Everybody Plays the Fool," by The Main Ingredient.

When the band began recording for The Blue Album at Electric Lady Studios, "Mykel and Carli" was recorded, but ultimately abandoned due to time constraints. A recording from these sessions was released as a bonus track on the iTunes and vinyl releases of the compilation album Death to False Metal in 2010. The band later recorded the song in the summer of 1994 (along with "Susanne" and "My Evaline") in a session with engineer Paul du Gré for the single release of "Undone - The Sweater Song".

Mykel, Carli, and sister Trysta Allan passed away in a car accident in July of 1997. At a tribute and benefit concert on August 15, 1997, Rivers Cuomo performed a solo rendition of the song "Mykel and Carli." Weezer would not perform the song live again until the Weezer Cruise on January 20, 2012.

Weezer's tribute was neither the first nor last tribute to the sisters. The Los Angeles-based band Black Market Flowers, who also performed at the August 15 tribute concert, also wrote a song titled "Mykel and Carli" prior to Weezer's song. In 1997, the compilation album Hear You Me! A Tribute to Mykel and Carli was released by Vast Records. The Allan sisters also inspired the song "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World, released on the band's album Bleed American in 2001.
