MYSTERIOUS OBJECT enters the SOLAR SYSTEM and looks at 3I/ATLAS
3I/ATLAS is the third interstellar object ever detected entering our solar system, after 1I/ʻOumuamua and 2I/Borisov. It was identified by the ATLAS system in Chile and is generating controversy due to its unusual trajectory and mysterious characteristics.
The object was officially classified as a comet by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center, receiving the name 3I/ATLAS:
"3" indicates that it is the third interstellar object ever detected.
"I" stands for "interstellar."
"ATLAS" honors the project responsible for the discovery.
