N64 Tetris Expert Plays 1989 Game Boy Tetris For The First Time
I'm sure many of you had known Tetris, the most iconic puzzle game around, but this time, I am going back to the one famous version that was a launch title of the original Game Boy, and this is my first ever time playing it! Because the N64 Tetris game, called The New Tetris, was the only one of the franchise I'm an expert on (as I can reach 920+ lines there), I am testing my skills and see how that fares with the 1989 handheld release which had the older, tougher rules/controls, which took a second to get used to. It is definitely worth it, because although the Game Boy version was NOT the first ever release of Tetris (it debuted in 1984 as a PC game), this was the actual game that single-handedly made the first ever successful handheld popular at original release (plus the franchise as a whole), years before Kirby and Pokemon eventually came after. Even with Pokemon Red/Blue in mind, this still remains the best-selling Game Boy title (despite being bundled).
The second and third sections of the game, I turned on the GBC mode and set red and blue colors to reference the default palette colors that the system uses if you play Pokemon Red and Blue, respectively. Bit of a shame I cannot bring back the original black and greenish hue screen...
Fun fact: The famous damaged Game Boy that survived an explosion in the Gulf War, currently on display in a Nintendo store in New York, has this very game being constantly shown.
