This is a retrospective of Nacht Der untoten from Call of Duty World at War. The most misunderstood zombies map.

Playing in 4 player co-op on the original Call of Duty World at War is still a blast. Although it's just a small map borrowed from a building in a map from competitive multiplayer, the overall game design is still as compelling as it was in 2008. This is thanks to the proper balance between the player strength, zombie strength, along with the map design directing(and forcing) players to work together through proper game and map design. This extends to the progression of the game mode over time as you go from guarding windows to fighting the zombies out in the open where the player rarely feels too overpowered, or for too long. There's no running off by yourself training zombies with little fear of getting downed since a teammate can easily revive you at any time with little consequence. It's a proper cooperative experience where the stakes in everything that you do are much higher than in most later iterations except for maybe one.
