「 DESCRIPTION 」
Need for Speed "OVERDRIVE" was the name reserved for HP 2010 at first. After they went with "HOT PURSUIT" for the release instead, they had in mind to grand it to their next installment. Eventually it became unused.
The performance upgrades setup recommended and used for this showcase is:
/ POWERSHOT PRO
/ REINFORCED
/ AERO PRO
/ SHORT GEARS PRO
By forcing B2D to be disabled and doing the right tweaks to the handling settings of each car creates a gameplay model where the driving feel is pleasant and skill-oriented having to master each vehicle individually.
The best way to describe the handling of each vehicle is simcade. As you can tell in the gameplay you can see the car gripping every corner as it should with perfect weight transfer. Nonetheless, if there's imperfections such as uneven terrain or off-roading involved the car will spin out accordingly as it is RWD which proves how complex and well designed the physics are for this game.
The cop chases are a solid proof that the game good old Criterion Games developed for what supposed to be the true sequel of Need for Speed Most Wanted released in 2005 are in fact better than its predecessor. The way the cops behave on the road is more natural as well as their maneuvers.
The addition of a chopper, which was ported from their previous title Hot Pursuit into the early stages of the game's development but couldn't make it to release due to having to adapt it to all the maps surroundings, would have added an extra spice to the mix, even more if this police unit were to be coded to target player's car with EMPs, Spike Strips, and perhaps a brand new type of weapon tech.
Crash physics are spectacular to watch when the AI wipes out adding up to the overall gameplay experience which were the signature of Criterion thanks to their expertise in developing the Burnout saga.
Another aspect to consider when it comes to the collisions is the importance of low chance crash cam triggers in order to maintain a smooth and fluid gameplay as frequent crash cams break the rhythm of the game which is very important as a racing title.
Interesting gameplay by combining the camera hack and MW OVERHAULED mods. The first gives SHIFT vibes while the other brings back THE RUN-like grip handling and MW05-like cop chases. Additionally, top quality vehicle mods like the one you see here add up to the overall experience.
