Need for Speed Unbound, you play as this up-and-coming street racer in a city called Lakeshore, which is basically like a fictional version of Chicago. At the start, you work in a garage called Rydell’s Rydes with your best friend Yaz and this older guy Rydell, who’s like a mentor to both of you. The three of you build this amazing custom car, and you’re planning to make a name for yourselves in the underground racing scene.
But then—plot twist—Yaz betrays you. One night, the garage gets robbed, and your custom-built car gets stolen. Turns out Yaz was part of the crew that hit the shop. She disappears and joins a big racing team, basically selling out for fame and sponsorship deals.
Two years go by, and you’re still in Lakeshore, starting from scratch. The city's racing scene is now more intense, with a lot more police heat and corporate influence. You slowly work your way back up, racing for cash, building new cars, and gaining rep. Along the way, you team up with a new ally named Tess, who helps manage your races and set up high-stakes events.
Your goal is to qualify for The Grand, the biggest street racing tournament in the city. Each week, you race to earn enough money and beat qualifiers to make it in. As you climb back up, Yaz comes back into the picture. She’s now one of the top racers, but you can tell she feels guilty about what happened. She eventually admits she was manipulated by her sponsors and wants to make things right.
By the time you get to The Grand, it’s all or nothing—you go head-to-head with the top drivers, including Yaz and the crew that stole from you. You win the tournament, reclaim your stolen car, and basically become the king (or queen) of the street racing world in Lakeshore. In the end, you and Yaz patch things up, and you both kind of return to your roots, racing on your own terms.
