Neo Geo X Gold = Expensive Junk (Decide For Yourself)
Before I begin, first off I want to say that if you are in love with this system in any way, DONT WATCH THIS VIDEO. it will only piss you off and cause you to write something in the comments section that has probably been written hundreds of times before.
CAREFULLY read the title. these opinions are MY opinions and if you dont like them than just hit the dislike button and stop watching the video.
ANYONE who leaves a comment stating that ISOs or ROM FILES are the same value as an ACTUAL, PHYSICAL copy of a game, in this case a neo geo cart and that this system with the 10 built in games is a real steal of a deal because buying all of those games would cost THOUSANDS of dollars is an IDIOT!
if you have any doubt or disagree with this statement than please talk with someone who has a bit of logic and have them explain to you that mythical creatures arent real and ISOs and ROM FILES arent the same value as an actual, tangible, physical copy of a game.
All of the issues I mention with this thing are justified and not random hate for the system. I have been a proud neo geo owner for over a decade as well as a collector, gamer, and electronic repairman for several years and everything I mention here is based on my experiences as that.
First off, in the video I say that the system feels `Light` here is what I mean by this:
If you take a look at things like example a Mac Book Air, its light, that being said, its made of aluminum. iphones are light as well, they are also made from aluminum and glass. When you see a picture of this system, it looks like it is made of the same materials but in fact, its plastic. the 3ds is also plastic but think like this, its the same difference between the Pollystation and the Playstation in terms of build quality
This is a really poor job of making a neo handheld and using the snk logo to make a profit on it. The construction of this system and all components are the cheapest Ive seen in a long time. you can see the seams where 2 pieces of plastic were joined on the buttons but not finely smoothed out. the joystick on the handheld seems as if it will break at any moment without warning. The screen has got to be one of the cheapest ones Ive seen yet. In the light it looks really grainy and light/hard to see. in the dark it looks better but colors bleed on the screen.*To see the real quality, load Alpha Mission II, wait till the screen turns white when the ship flies by and press the menu button when the screen is white. Tilt the screen down and you can see a checkered gray pattern, that is your screen quality*
there is no cover on the game slot opening/sd slot opening, its just open, WTF? did no one learn anything from the Atari Jaguar and complaints with the same lack of covers? guess not, went the cheap route with this one as well and on top of that, its in a really bad position with a big gap so putting this in your pocket will most likely clog the slot in a matter of minutes with dirt, dust or coins. The slot is big enough for a quarter to fit in with ease and if that gets stuck in there, turn on the power and *Poof* there goes the system and $200 up in smoke. The emulation is horrible, sounds are off and quiet, colors are off and too bright at times or too much contrast even after messing with the brightness button at the bottom (only one button for brighter and darker, thats it), looks bad in the light a bit better in the dark. The docking station has a very uncomfortable feel when trying to connect the handheld to it, it feels as if you will break something and/or fry something by not getting the pins on correctly and its the ONLY way to charge the system, no plugs on it by itself to charge it and cannot be charged by any other means, want to take this out to show your friends, bring a backpack for the `Charging Station/Console`.
It takes a few seconds for the handheld to connect to the docking station to finally produce an image on your tv which looks like crap, really crap at least in composite maybe hdmi as well? didnt try that far but compared with the real neo geo aes even in composite the neo geo x gold looks awful.
If you want a neo geo emulator I recommend using your psp as you will get a much better, cleaner, more authentic feel than this.
*Please keep in mind that I would never intentionally bash a system but I would not want anyone else to feel disappointed with this system if they paid $200 for it. I have over a Hundred + neo geo games on all neo geo platforms and I really have to say that this neo geo x gold is not the quality that it should be especially from a casual gamer or collectors point.there is no telling how long thing thing will last but it is a clone type system.
