Ness - Melee Event 51 The Showdown (No stock loss)
36Despite being one of the worst characters in Melee, Ness is actually pretty good at the Showdown. Ness' midair jump is a huge help here, allowing him to safely assault Giga Bowser, and Ness has multiple attacks with enough base knockback to safely attack Giga Bowser at low damage (mainly dair and bair). Ness' dair and bair just wreck Giga Bowser, and Ness won't have too much trouble getting kills on him with them. Ness can also pull easy long combos on Giga Bowser with uairs, though I hardly found the time to do so and ending up just bairing him away. Ness can additionally easily heal himself from Mewtwo's errant Shadow Balls with PSI Magnet (though I don't get to utilise it in this run). For extra caveats, Ness' PK Flash is really easy to hit the AI with, so you can get 65% kills with it, and PK Fire can trap Giga Bowser easily while keeping the other two from approaching as Giga Bowser hops around it.
The main issue with Ness is that while his midair jump grants him great safety in attacking, his pitiful reach will leave him in great danger if he has to land without hitting Giga Bowser, and Ness has a lot of trouble getting away when the opponents get on top of him. Plus Ness' terrible recovery will cause you many stocks and makes offstage really dangerous for him.
Overall though, Ness is high tier at the Showdown.
