Neverwinter MMO In 2023 - Is It Worth It?
19My initial first impression of the Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter MMO on the Xbox in 2023 was somewhat "meh", but after folks left some comments on that video telling me the game gets better and has a lot of D&D lore that I would appreciate, I gave it another shot. And I'm glad I did, because what I found beneath the surface was a Dungeons & Dragons lore fest that I can absolutely get behind.
The thing that I enjoy most about Neverwinter is the fact that I'm getting to see and explore locations from the books, from the tabletop campaigns, and beyond. If you enjoy Dungeons & Dragons from a lore perspective, this game has a lot to offer.
Beyond that, everything is fairly standard free-to-play stuff that you'd see in any other F2P MMORPG: lootboxes and lots of cash shop items. But you can choose to ignore them completely if you just want to casually dip your toes into classic Forgotten Realms locations.
It looks a bit dated, and I'm not a huge fan of the combat, but getting past those things allowed me to see what's actually here: a rich, deeply involved MMO that closely follows established Dungeons & Dragons storylines from books, campaign modules, and seasons.
