Have you ever heard of the Pico-8?
The Pico-8 is a fantasy console. It never existed, yet there is an "emulator" for it.

The theory is that being an 8-bit console it has built in limitations that make games for the system similar to 8 bit games of the past.

"PICO-8's specifications and ecosystem are instead designed from scratch to produce something that has it's own identity and feels real. Instead of physical cartridges, programs made for PICO-8 are distributed on .png images that look like cartridges, complete with labels and a fixed 32k data capacity."
