There are two different map types in Rust. Procedural and Hapis Island. In order to gain the best gaming experience it is important to make the right decision in the very beginning: Choose the right map for you.

Both maps offer advantages and disadvantages for certain player types. Procedural maps are created by a certain algorithm which will leave many factors to the random generator. Hapis Island as the opposite is a designed map.

Ressources and structures are the same on both maps, but of course in different places and with different layout. It is safe to say that Hapis Island has a lower spread of ores and the best farming areas are towards the sea and the other circle of the island.

The Procedural maps however do not favor any regions and you will be able to find resources nearly everywhere. This is especially a big advantage for bigger teams/groups as they will be able to farm a lot of C4 in rather short time, allowing them to quickly dominate the server.

Hapis Island is a little bit more in favor of the small groups/solo players as resources are more scare and larger groups will be constantly contesting all other players for materials and territory. A solo player has more options to stay in the shadows.
