Summary: Ofir Zilberberg, the CEO of Arpalus, shares how Google Cloud is helping the retail tech company leverage AI to put a fresh spin on managing the retail shelf. With Google Cloud, Arpalus leveraged advanced AI technologies, such as computer vision, augmented reality (AR), and generative AI, to build an app that empowers retailers to optimize their in-store operations and product availability.

Challenge: Arpalus wanted to find a way to use AI and automation technologies to help tackle one of the biggest (and oldest) challenges in the retail industry — inventory management.

Solution: Using Google Cloud, Arpalus developed an app that can instantly analyze the physical shelf and notify employees about actions to take to improve it. Powered by its patented computer vision and AR technology, the app provides real-time recognition of products and generates a full report of insights, including out-of-stock items, planogram compliance, pricing, assortment, and more. Now, the company is using gen AI to expand its vision capabilities, transforming images into 3D models for even more powerful and accurate product recognition.

Results: Instead of relying on barcode scanners and pen and paper methods, retail employees can now simply scan shelves and “see” what’s on the shelf in seconds, along with AI-powered suggestions about specific actions they can take to maximize on-shelf availability and deliver better customer experiences.
