I can say that "Next Car Game" is one of those that will eventually be a great game, but is a pure case of a studio putting something in Early Access way too early in development. Some fans have started to turn sour at the long development process. As a software developer myself I understand that things sometimes take time to be done well, and in this case, writing a soft-body physics engine from scratch can't be an easy task. So for me, I'm not upset with Bugbear's slow development time. But I do feel the heat from the community.

In June/July of 2015 we got our first major update in a long time. According to the dev notes, a lot of the effort has gone into the game mechanics themselves.

Some of the players are now asking for the game to be reverted back to the previous version. I don't think that will happen, but I do think things will get better over time. These same players sometimes forget they're playing an early alpha version of the game.

Anyways, this is my initial impressions of the recent update. The handling is VERY different. I can't say if it's better or worst, but it is something I had to get used to. Some players claimed the game would crash but I never experienced that. The only graphics glitch I'm having an issue with is the lack of shadows at curtain points. It gives this "Floating" look to the car that makes it seem unnatrual. I've also seen cases where wheels of a smashed car will be floating in the air. In the previous version of the game you'd see wheels get crumpled up into the car frame in a way that wouldn't be possible in reality. Neither that nor the floating tire are ideal from a visual perspective, but that'll be more work for their soft-body physics in future updates I'm sure.
