Dead Island: Riptide is an upcoming action role-playing survival horror video game developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver, set for release in April 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. Although described as a spin-off, the game's story picks up right after where Dead Island left off, as the five survivors arrive on another island in the Banoi archipelago, which has also been overrun by zombies.
On September 19, 2012, the official Dead Island Facebook page posted the teaser trailer to Dead Island: Riptide Reactions to the trailer have been mixed, with most reviews comparing it to the original trailer for Dead Island. 'Official Xbox Magazine stated "Halfway through development [of Dead Island], somebody at Techland decided the best way to advertise all this was a trailer which details the final, stirring moments of a Colgate family, caught in the zombie uproar," going on to say "Does the Riptide trailer paint a more faithful picture? I doubt it - screenshots suggest that the flesh-mulching takes precedence once again - but by all means get your hanky good and damp.
Gaming review site Cinemablend said "I'm just going to say, everyone dies. It's not quite as depressing as the Dead Island trailer, though. Not the most ringing endorsement I've ever given a trailer but there you go.
Video game blog Joystiq said "[...]Techland is giving its follow-up a similarly artistic treatment, albeit not quite as spectacular. The CGI video punctuates a loving farewell with a surrounding megaton of undead. As with its predecessor's cinematic debut, we don't learn much about Dead Island: Riptide from it. Still, it does make us appreciate how romantic a lighter can be, even outside of Elton John gigs.
A music video for a song called "No Room For Hell" was released by rapper Josef "J7" Lord (who in the song is named Sam B as the main character from Dead Island), for promotion and featured Chamillionaire A new trailer released on YouTube known as the 'They Thought Wrong' trailer shows the new gameplay, characters and enemies. It has been confirmed that a new character has been introduced going by the name of John Morgan, a soldier that was part of the rescue team on Palanai Island.
