Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch #166 Commentary, Final Battle (1/2): Cassiopeia
This is video #166 in my playthrough of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/C6Q0o3TRyBE
The party has reached the final floor of the Ivory Tower. The dungeon is pretty straightforward, if you ask me. It is now time to go through the final storyline battles of the game. Incidentally, this is my first time fighting these final battles.
After preparing at the Waystone, they pass through the door to the White Witch's council chamber. There is a scene between Oliver and the witch. During the scene, something strange happens.
After the scene, the party goes through the northern exit from the council chamber (time index 3:47). After passing through another lengthy hall, we are given the choice whether to enter the throne room. Yes, of course! On the other side, there is a scene with the White Witch.
After the scene, it is time to fight Cassiopeia, the White Witch (time index 6:07). This is the first of three boss fights, so be sure not to go through all your resources just yet. At the beginning of the battle, Swaine steals a Diva's Mantle. Incidentally, I also earn the Man of Steal trophy, which is earned for stealing 50 times.
Cassiopeia has a few attacks to look out for. She has a ranged attack called Pillars of Darkness. Star Bolt does medium damage to one ally. Her strongest attack, Fallen Star can do major damage to the whole party, so be sure to defend against this. In fact, it is a good idea to defend against or avoid as much as possible. When her HP drops below half, she will use Nightshade which puts her on the offensive.
Healing is very important here, so be sure to have familiars with good group healing abilities. It also helps to have as many group healing items on hand as possible. If you can stock up on Great Sage's Secrets at the casino, they will make this battle much easier, because it will allow Oliver to spam Mornstar.
After Cassiopeia the White Witch is defeated, another scene takes place (time index 11:27). She will draw the party into darkness and transform into Cassiopeia, Monster of Manna. This starts the second battle in the final battle sequence (time index 12:06).
The Monster of Manna is a huge six-legged beast with punishing physical attacks. Swaine can steal a set of Werewolf Claws from it. In its Wrathful Rush, it will dash across the arena and collide with an ally. Its Harrowing Horns attack is a ranged blast, and Death Drop does plenty of damage to nearby targets; these attacks are best avoided. Its nastiest attack is Annihilation, a moving beam that can do massive damage to everyone caught in the beam. Annihilation takes a while to charge up, so don't Defend too soon.
Oliver's powerful magic such as Mornstar can certainly help whittle down the Monster of Manna's HP, and so can powerful tricks. Be sure to keep everyone's MP up with plenty of Cappuccinos, Espressos, and Great Sage's Secrets. Keeping Oliver at a distance seems to help here.
The final battle will be in the next video.
Thanks for watching!
