Night Book - Main Endings
38The main endings to the game Night Book, where you read a sacred text and get extra haunted by spirits that want to stop development of their island (and happen to have already been haunting your father who tried developing the island in the past). You actually get two paths that lead to having this occur with different angles of the book’s history presented and options of dealing with your curse.
While the game boasts 15 endings, in actuality there’s only a few main endings with some slight variations on how you get the book (if you do at all) and these variants don’t impact the final scenes. Whether you successfully convince Pearce or not, you will end up possessed unless you get scans of the book (allowing you to sacrifice Pearce) or get the book to destroy it and free yourself, and whether your father survives further affects this. Calling Pearce largely plays out the same way where saying the exact comments will have Pearce often consider you hysterical but the spirits may nonetheless be pleased with you (I guess we get an E for effort?). Likewise, it’s possible for your father to come to his senses and throw down the scissors but nonetheless still get the slide for dying (this seems to happen when getting the scans). It also doesn’t make sense for you to be haunted when you take Max’s call as he reads the book instead of Loralyn and experiences no hauntings. So even after multiple playthroughs I’m just boggled by a good bit of the design with this game.
It's not a bad FMV game (more average/meh level) but the above problems make it tedious to explore other options when it plays out too similarly to previous runs. I think it was about 60-90 minutes for a first play and then you can skip scenes you’ve already experienced. I’d recommend getting it on sale, if at all.
