Nikon V1 & J1 Preview
1At the recent Nikon J1 & V1 launch held last December at SM North's Nikon Concept Store, we were able to check out the two new Interchangeable Lens Compact devices from the popular imaging company. The 1-Series cameras are compact, fast cameras with the ability to swap lenses -- which allows it to be a much more versatile pocket camera. They're designed for users who are looking for a portable and stylish shooter, but aren't enticed the bulk of traditional DSLRs. Compared to the rest of the ILC crowd, Nikon's offering has a slightly smaller sensor (2.7x crop) -- both being an advantage and a disadvantage. The disadvantage being that smaller sensors are less effective in darker conditions, while the advantage is that it allows for Nikon to make the cameras blazingly fast -- up to 60FPS burst shooting and even up to 1200FPS slow motion videos.
