NIN Registration: NIMC Nabs Tout, Moves Against Extortion.
2The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has threatened to arrest and prosecute staff as well as agents found to indulge in extortion in the registration of National Identification Number, NIN.
The Acting Director General, NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote who read the riot act shortly after paying a surprise visit to one of the commission's registration centres located at Wuse Zone 3 in the Federal Capital Territory warned Nigerians against paying money for NIN registration.
She said the commission will not hesitate to sanction anyone caught in the act.
To match action with words, a man was arrested and handed over to the Police for allegedly extorting money from unsuspecting NIN registrant.
During the visit, the new NIMC boss assured staff of improved welfare package but warned that their efforts must be in tandem with the gesture.
She however acknowledged the challenges being faced by the staff of the commission and assured that efforts are on to resolve them soon.
