Where? The corner store. The party store. The store 8 houses down the street from my house. The State Fair Market, where you will find Mr. Rodriquez drinking his bottles of liquor in the alley behind the store. Where occasionally him or some other old creep father of bully children running rampant in the streets leaves behind porno mags for me to find as a child all growing up too. LOL. I also found a $50 bill one time.
5 streets north of 8 Mile in Ferndale Michigan. I was a youngster 12 years old living on Channing dead end street. 6 houses from the rail road yard and tracks and Pickle Park east of our home....where little boys like me would be robbed, kidnapped or raped if my mother didn't tell me I wasn't allowed. (Even though I did. I seen shady characters but at that park I never had an issue growing up.) The State Fair market is west of our home at the end of the street on Hilton. They used to have an Ice Cream Parlor with the best chocolate and vanilla soft serve I can ever remember. But they kept getting robbed. So they bricked that section off of the serving windows in like, 1984. For a few years it was just a party store / liquor store / cigarette / lotto get your daily fixin's store. Then in 1986 they used the area where the ice cream shoppe was empty and started putting in stand-up arcade games!
Eventually they had 4 to 5 games back there at one time.
Ninja Gaiden showed up. I was blown away and hooked instantly!
Getting my packs of Garbage Pail kids with powdery hard stick gum chewing away and sinking quarters playing like poop to Ninja Gaiden. I could never get past the second level when I was 12. I would run out of time most of the time... having to get home.
When? Summer of 1988
What? NINJA GAIDEN!!!! This is the only version of any of the Ninja Gaiden games that I like. The only one.
I've always considered this game most like an advanced Kung Fu games with modified graphics and game play.
