Around 16 hours 42 minutes to beat. This was a tough game to put together. Had I known about two 1-up farming locations I couldve cut it down a few hours. I used a new technique for beating this game. I made two save slots on the emulator. Slot 0 was my legit run slot and Slot 1 was my practice run slot. I alternated between my legit run and the practice slot to practice stages 3 and up first before playing on the legit run slot. Whatever happens on the legit run slot is permanent and cant be reset. Practicing on another save slot helped keep my memory fresh. I used this method very late into practice. I will detail the practice methods I used, strategies and show both 1-up farming locations in the upcoming No Damage tutorial. That tutorial will show all the sections done without damage and break everything down. I still have to complete about 9 sections without damage to get the rest of the footage. This game gets very tense with only 5 continues, as one mistake can easily snowball into many lost lives. This full attempt took around 2 hours 29 minutes to complete. In this video Im only showing gameplay on the legit save slot, not the practice runs I did for stages 3 and up prior to each legit attempt. Execution wise I was able to complete many sections no damage and learn fairly quickly, but remembering everything in the moment took much longer. Memory was the main thing that dragged things out. In this US version you take alot of damage and you dont get any checkpoints until several sections later, so you have to be able to complete multiple areas in a row on each life, and of course the limited continues. I beat the Japanese version years ago which is much more forgiving. I find this game much harder than NG 1 or 2 on the NES since those have unlimited continues and much more frequent checkpoints. Those games are more aggressive moment to moment but dont punish you as heavily for failure. After the tutorial is complete I will post up a review as well.
