22In the 1980s, "ninjamania" hit popular media hard, and the alternate reality UFO 50 comes from was no exception. The result was 1983's Ninpek, an auto-scrolling platformer with similarities to arcade classics like SonSon and Psycho Soldier that tasks you with an epic quest: retrieve your sandwich from a dastardly octopus!
UFO 50 is a new release from Spelunky publisher Mossmouth and an all-star cast of indie developers, collecting together 50 fake retro games for an imaginary games console. In this series we're taking a look at each and every one of them, exploring both how they play from a modern perspective and how they pay homage to real '80s games.
