Nintendo Switch HORROR Games | 8-Bit Eric | 8-Bit Eric
2508-Bit Eric is back with some of the best Switch horror games and some not so great Nintendo Switch horror games. This list is just a handful of Switch games that are available for physical and also on the Switch eShop. Vaccine is a call back to the classic 90's resident evil style gameplay. Everything about this game upon first impression truly feels like you have stepped back to a time where early 3d polygons and low detailed shapes and environments reigned supreme in gaming. Vaccine takes place in a mansion where you play as one of two characters who are tasked with finding a vaccine to cure your partner from the “Shredder Syndrome”, the virus that is prevalent in this game. .
Speaking of Resident Evil, the Resident Evil revelations collection is out on the Nintendo Switch, quick warning do not buy this game used, as one of the games is a download only option. Now, I was a big fan of the revelations games and had them on the 3ds and even Wii U. These spin offs harkened back to the classic Resident Evil style of gameplay, yet still had a good bit of the action style that came out in later games of the series. Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine are both featured in these games, the main story of the first has Jill going on a boat searching for her former partner. The game has a lot of chapters that switch between both characters and breaks up the gameplay, to make it interesting. I think the textures and graphics of the game look really good, considering the games are a few years old already.
Now let's go ahead and talk about a horror game that is a bit slower paced than the action oriented style than Resident Evil has. Perception which is a game that has you playing as a blind girl that is exploring a mansion that she keeps having dreams about. It is very much story driven, you will learn more about her backstory as she explores this mansion. The gameplay is base on walking around the mansion, tapping your cane, where ever you aim it at a small wave of sound temporarily fills the room allowing you to see defined objects, doorways and other things in the room. It is a lot like Daredevil's powers. Sure it isn't realistic at all, since this doesn't really happen to blind people but it adds a paranormal experience to the game. Key objects in the dark will be outlined green, but will slowly fade without noise. If you make too much noise however, a presence will show up and hunt for you in this house. You are not able to attack or defend yourself at all. You will need to hide and wait for the environment to become safe.
The next game is Don't Knock Twice, this game is similar to Layers of fear, and is based on a movie of the same name. you take the role of Jess, a mother who had to give away her child at a young age but is now hoping to reconnect with her. The gameplay mostly consists of walking around a creepy house, kinda like a lot of games such as Layers of Fear and even Perception.
One of the most scariest experiences I have played on the Switch have been both Outlast games. I never played either of these the first time they came out, so having them on the Switch was my first foray into this series. When I was warned by my good friend RGT 85 that I would shit my pants, he wasn’t wrong. In the first outlast you play a gentleman that is investigating some strange occurrences happening in an insane asylum, The difference between Outlast and most other survival horror games is that you're completely defenseless. There is absolutely no way to attack anything in this game. You are only able to hide and avoid enemies.
