You can purchase a device that is basically like a VCR for HD sources, connect a USB stick or USB hard drive, press the "record" button and and recording will start. I love the simplicity compared to most other recording devices which require a high-end PC to do the video processing.

This is a recording from Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch using the AGPtEK HD Game Capture Video Capture 1080P that I've purchased from Amazon.ca. It's super simple - there is a HDMI bypass that lets you play using the display on your regular TV.
