I forgot to say on the video, if you soul match different weapon or armour types (Swords to spears or Helms to boots etc) it will cost more.

Also, the more you use the blacksmith, the more upgrade points you get for reducing blacksmith costs! You will see a (!) To talk to Tome, and upgrade using the old man first. For gold sell all white, yellow and blue items.

Also, farming for most smithing texts isnt too bad. Otakemaru and Tokichiro drop quite a few as does Shuten Doji. After that, the missions where you fight Mataza, Hanzo etc are where you get most of the rest. Get Item drop on all your gear and it really helps!
