Nioh. Last Chance Trial. Stream VOD #1
Nioh is the upcoming Playstation 4 exclusive that many have begun calling "Samurai Souls," due to the obvious influence from the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne franchises. The gameplay is fast, frantic, and fluid, owing largely to the "stance system." Each melee weapon can be used in High, Mid, or Low Stance, each offering diffterent movesets and combos.
I participated in the original alpha demo and it's incredible to see how far the game has come in that time. This is my second day playing the Last Chance Trial and I streamed in order to show what I had learned. In this stream, I went through the primary mission with each of the 5 weapon classes (Sword, Dual Sword, Spear, Axe, and Kusarigama) in order to familiarize myself with the different weapons. I then tackled the Twilight Mission, and finally the final boss.
This game is tough. Brutally tough. Enemies like the Raven Tengu, Nurikabe, , and Amrita fiends each present their own challenge. Ki (stamina) management is crucial and learning how to perform Ki pulses (which restore your Ki) is of the utmost importance.
Overall, the Ogress boss was not too difficult (provided the camera didn't decide to cause you to dash under her when she was leaping), but the final boss, Tachibana Muneshige, was another story. Less of a boss fight and more of a duel, this enemy is just as fast, if not faster, than you. Timing had to be precise and you had to choose your attacks carefully.
Nioh (Japanese: 仁王 Hepburn: Niō?, lit. "benevolent king") is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). It will release worldwide in February 2017, be published by Koei Tecmo in Japan and Sony Interactive Entertainment internationally. Gameplay, which was inspired by the Souls series, revolves around navigating levels and defeating monsters that have infested an area. Nioh takes place in the early 1600s during a fictionalized version of the Sengoku period, when Japan was in the midst of civil war prior to the ascension of the Tokugawa shogunate. A sailor named William, in pursuit of an enemy, arrives in Japan and is enlisted by Hattori Hanzō, servant to Tokugawa Ieyasu, in defeating yokai that are flourishing in the chaos of war.
