There were a few scary moments, like the bear that teaches Counters and a misplayed stealth takedown on the two soldiers near the end of mission two, but a cool head and risk-mitigation prevailed. Dual Wields are a powerful weapon for defensive play because they derive damage from Willpower, which also governs how much Stamina unparried hits take from you when you block them. It allows your defense to be imperfect and still maintain your balance + stay alive.
