In this segment of Gateway to Phoenix, Councilman Gates hosts Ann Morton, the artist for the North 32nd Street Public Art Project. After gathering input from the local community, Ann used the handprints of area residents to create a series of rusted steel butterflies. The butterflies will be affixed to light poles in the area to resemble a butterfly migration. The design was rooted in resident feedback that highlighted the area’s close proximity to the natural setting of the city’s Desert Preserves as well as Arizona’s rich sunsets.
