(not) the ff7 soundfont - slapdash update!
UPDATE (May 2022) - since this video I have found/changed a bunch more sounds, notably woodwinds and THE E PIANO. (September 2022) - found more, see below.
Oh hi! I was surprised by how many people were interested in the geeky progress re-finding the Final Fantasy VII type sounds, so, uh, have a bit of a live tour of where we're at now. Sorry about the desk noise, I stupidly put the mic on a stand on the desk.
7:18 to hear music
I've got it sounding a lot closer now, by using a mix of self-sampled Roland and - especially - finding a whole chunk of sounds that definitely come from the Proteus series and grabbing them directly from the good people at digital sound factory.
(EDIT: more recently, still using some of the Proteus ones, not using m/any of the Roland ones; and I've found where people have written down finds so far in much more organised way:

see Mathew Valente's video for more of a walkthrough some of this https://youtu.be/dBI7UY3a9VU
So this video is kinda out of date, things sound even better now, but here was my Process and a bunch of things are in I suppose!

☄️ Original Final Fantasy VII soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu
☄️ My demakes so far, using the lovely ff7 soundfont that is already available (I just don't want to use it if distributing elsewhere!) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJpTK8tDcxD3t_Sv1gV3LnSapeFSXPTzM

This is mostly geeky ramblings for those who are following for whatever reason in just to catch you up: remaking my demakes of the remake OST (this playlist) with not-technically-the-ff7-soundfont and legally obtained only samples —
This is still going to take a little longer, but I've made a lot of progress matching up sounds and I really wanted to share SOMEthing. even if uh basically what I'm doing is putting a load of effort into making things sound really similar to how they did before ORZ
Taking you through a bit what I've got, then ill-advised side-by-side of my tracks and og game tracks. EXTREMELY PRELIMINARY, there is a lot of tweaking not to mention less slapdash mastering to be done, but here go for now:)

MOST WANTED (still)
- ELECTRIC PIANO
nothing else is anything like as high on the list, but, Would Be Nice:
