Vudu's 3D movies are meant to be played on a 3D TV, but those are rather expensive nowadays. Today, I'll show you how you can watch your 3D movies on your Oculus Go as well as PC headsets like the Vive and Oculus Rift, and your Nintendo 3DS… somewhat.

0:34 – The Method
All of Vudu’s content have movie IDs, and they can be found in the url, like https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/How-to-Train-Your-Dragon-2-3D-/608741 for example.
https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/play/#/RESOLVE is the player url. Just replace # with the movie ID from above, and you’d get https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/play/608741/RESOLVE, the player for How To Train Your Dragon 2 in 3D.

0:56 – Viewing from Vudu itself
If you just want to watch from the page itself, you’ll need something like Bigscreen or Virtual Desktop to display your content in 3D in PC VR. If you have an Oculus Go, both of these are capable for remote streaming. For Bigscreen, use the desktop mode function in Steam, and Virtual Desktop has a dedicated remote streaming program available at https://www.vrdesktop.net/ As for Daydream, you’re out of luck, unfortunately.

1:14 – Screen Recording
Windows 10 has a built-in screen recorder, which you can activate by holding down the Windows Key and pressing G, and letting Gamebar know that your browser is a game. OBS will also work, and there are tutorials to getting it to record in 1080p flawlessly.
As for Macs, it’s a little bit harder. Quicktime can screen-record, but it’ll only record mics. Good thing is with this tutorial: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-record-audio-from-your-computer-using-Quick/.

Monosnap is a decent alternative that does record audio and it’s free: https://monosnap.com/en/page/download/mac.

Keep in mind that 1080p recording can get pretty big, between 2-10 Gbs, so make sure you have enough space.
If you have never transferred anything to your headset, follow this little guide for Oculus Go: https://support.oculus.com/212288649367669/

2:00 – Watching on your PC without a headset
VLC player (https://www.videolan.org/) can turn 3D SBS into Anaglyph 3D. First, go to Tools, Effects and Filters, and then click on Video Effects, Advanced, and check Anaglyph 3D, and then dig out those 3D glasses you kept in your Sharkboy and Lavagirl DVD case, aka Red-and-blue glasses. If you don’t have a pair, you can get one off of Amazon: https://amzn.to/2D8uElc

2:16 – Using PlayOn
PlayOn is like a DVR for online content that can stream and record movies to some devices that normally wouldn’t have access to services like Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc. You can learn more about it at http://bit.ly/PlayOnBTV.

When you first stream your 3D movie, you’ll be met with an error message preventing you from watching. Luckily, there is a workaround. First, go to https://support.playon.tv/hc/en-us/articles/217131197 and download visible.mmt, and place it in your install folder, which you can find here:
32-bit OS: C:\Program Files\MediaMall
64-bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMall
Then stop and start the PlayOn server, and you should be good to go!

You can use Skybox or any other DLNA-compatible player to watch 3D movies, or you can watch in your browser by first going to http://m.playon.tv/

Keep in mind that you may have to add PlayOn as an exception to your Anti-virus software, otherwise, you may not be able to stream to your headset.

3:33 – Watching on your Nintendo 3DS

Weird, right, but it’s possible! While there is a method of watching your recorded movies, I wasn’t able to make a decent tutorial for it. However, you can find one here if you’d like to try it: https://youtu.be/c3QhZ-Lcz5Y

(This method might not work on original 3DS) To watch 3D movies on your 3DS using PlayOn, first go to http://m.playon.tv/ and click on your PC. At the address bar, you should get a url that looks like this: 192.168.1.2:54479. Keep in mind that yours may look different. In the 3DS browser, type in the url that you got previously, add http:// in the beginning, and once you pick your 3D movie, don’t forget to turn on 3D.

4:40 – How to test to see if your headset is capable of Vudu.com playback

Soon, there might be a headset out there that will be able to play movies directly from Vudu.com. If you’d like to test it out yourself, first go to http://vudu.com/, turn on Desktop mode, and search “toy ss,” and you should see the 3D version of the Toy Story 3 trailer. Alternatively, you can get straight to the video by going to http://bit.ly/v3dtest (all lower-case)
