Well, what a sight! Shocking too. We soon noticed V18's headlight, so I started recording. We were wondering why they wouldn't stop flashing their ditchlights until they got close. As I zoomed in on the loco, I was getting puzzled because it almost looked as if they were running long hood forward. Apparently so! I've never seen these mainline trains running backwards around here, but this was quite a sight! I don't know why they were, but I think it matches this railroad line's tradition well. The NS Norfolk District is ex-N&W, and N&W ran long hood forward a lot, as did SOU. In fact, the NS crews might get paid extra to run long hood forward. I guess it has to with less visibility when doing that. And now I know why they didn't turn their ditchlights off. Flashing their ditchlights makes them more visible to humans or animals around them. Enjoy!
