No Music.. No Talking.. Quest 2 linked VR - Looking back at American Truck Simulator.. I have had this title for some time.. but, this is what I did for a living... so it gets boring quick for me..lol.. I have watched Bush Pilots on youtube say the same , as they land on a bumpy muddy landing strip pointing to the sky with chickens on it.. Whatever you do for a lifetime..usually transfers as boring in a computer game... just life..
As for the game play.. yeah, it kinda feels like what you would do in real life... I notice on single lane roads.. when a truck coming from the other way flies by, you get that suction feel that is a real life attribute.. nicely designed.. the right mirror.. in real life, it is not really unseen.. you always see it with your peripheral vision.. not turning your head as far as this game makes it feel.. but they have the cheat mirrors, which makes it feel more right.. as for shifting.. once you get use to driving truck, it is like having an automatic anyways.. you just float thru the gears without thinking about it.. so using automatic in the game is just fine in my opinion... I was trying to use my CH YOKE (which I also used for brakes and acceleration) instead of mounting my wheel again.. its a bit twitchy.. but possibly usable if I stuck with this and played with it a bit.. Scenery graphics are interesting, making it feel like Small town or Big City USA when needed and game play I would say can be fun, obviously a lot of people do play it.. especially for those that wonder what Truck driving is about.. although many Truckers unload their own freight lol.. if you see a trucker in a day cab..trust me, they are Less Than Load (LTL) drivers and doing the work more than likely at multiple stops.. it isn't all just drive and drop a trailer, but it can be.. Although a long nose is a delight down a highway, it ends there. I started driving in Whites and International cab overs.. so I have a fondness for them.. ended in Volvos about 15 years ago.. they do a nice job on modeling this.. although I wish i could press and pull the yellow and red dash buttons and hear the air whoosh out.. lol..
Now that I have the Quest 2.. I just had to jump back in to take a look.. and I enjoyed it.. I don't know why they don't mention this has VR on their store page? .. pretty simple to get going for the Quest 2.. for "linked", just add -oculus to the launch options in steam and make sure you set the game to BETA option and use the latest oculus VR beta.. that's about all there is to it... for Wireless they say use -openvr as launch option.. but I am sitting here at the computer..why use wireless? lol
The game play in VR does push it up a notch on the "like" part for me.. I did have to adjust the settings though.. there is a resolution Percentage that I had dropped to 100%.. the fade ins and outs of this video is me adjusting to see what works best with my setup.. I think 125% was the best performance and looks for "my" system.. Any stutter in the video is blamed on my adjustments during play and recording.. it actually ran quite smooth once setup.. for my recording I used the Oculus Mirror program (which can be found in oculus-diagnostics), I use --Size 1920 1080 in a shortcut on my desktop to launch the mirror.. then used OBS to capture that window...
