This is my second video trying to run VR games with the GPD Win Max, and I have found that you can run a few games in fact.

It seems it is not possible to run VR games using Oculus or using SteamVR directly. The overlays seems to be too heavy on the performance, but using Virtual Desktop, it now has an option to launch games directly if they are using the Oculus VR driver. Some Steam games allow for this, like Superhot VR and Zero Caliber. I had a lot more luck running Oculus games though.

As the video might show its not a great framerate. I have set the lowest settings with Virtual Desktop, which includes limiting it to 60fps, and I sometimes the fps still drops lower than that. A lot of games wont run at all, even Oculus games.

Games I have been able to run so far: Superhot VR, Zero Caliber VR (both on Steam), Budget Cuts, Karnage VR, Shadow Point, The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets and Duck Season.

A few games I expect would be able to run but did not were Job Simulator, Rick and Morty in Virtual Rickality, Pixel Ripped and Google Earth VR.

Other games I have been unable to get to run is Red Matter, Gorn, In Death, Medium, and Quill. I have managed to run Defector and Stormland, but they had very low framerates and Stormland lacked textures or something, so it was somewhat unplayable. In Defector I could not get past the title screen, but I am guessing the lag would only get worse in game.

Installing Oculus games on the Win Max was a bit of a problem, because it seems to block installing games on computers with low end hardware. So I had to copy the games from my desktop computer. There is an official guide on how to backup Oculus games here:

I recorded this video on the Quest and some parts of the video the audio was out of sync, and I fixed that using a free video editing tool called DaVinci Resolve. Its pretty amazing how many features there is in this, while being free. There is a paid version as well, but that mainly adds some sound effects and support for 8K, if I am not mistaken.

I tried using OpenComposite to get more games to run as Oculus games. It replaces the OpenVR driver with an Oculus VR driver alternative, for all apps on your computer. But they all get a -1007 something error. I also tried replacing the OpenVR dll directly with Oculus VR alternatives, but same problem as when using OpenComposite. I am guessing it has something to do with the GPU, the Intel Iris Plus 940 that is in the GPD Win Max.
