This bug zapper or mosquito zapper from OITTM works by having a low wavelength light 365 Nm that attracts insects, they fly into the opening vents and the fan not only prevents them from flying out but dries them out and desiccates them. It doesn't really shock/zap but merely attracts them and traps them until death.
During testing many small moths and types of flying bugs were caught, the vents are too small for larger bugs but I was not able to actually kill any mosquitos despite testing it in San Diego County and bringing it the mountains. I used it outdoor on a patio deck as well as inside, one bit of warning is they recommend turning it on 3 hours before bed and at least an hour before dark and it works best in an empty room or room without people since it is a passive attractant. It effectively killed about 20-30 bugs in 3-5 days span around my place but no mosquitos during my 2 weeks testing.
