The opening to the show, “Who knows … what evil … lllllurks … in the heart of men? … The Shadow knows! His “friend and companion, the lovely Margo Lane, is the only person who knows to whom the voice of the invisible Shadow belongs”. Together they confront the maddest assortment of lunatics, sadists, ghosts and werewolves ever heard on the air. In this episode:
A late afternoon rain storm breaks over the city. As people run for cover, in a strange coincidence two men collide as they dash into a small doorway. Steve Grant is bewildered to discover it's Lamont Cranston, the very man he was heading over to see, after remembering that he had studied occult sciences. After hearing his story, Lamont dismisses it as over work and hallucination - until he gets a phone call at 5am from Steve's distressed wife, who says he has been kidnapped!
