The shadow was amateur criminologist Lamont Cranston. He had learned “the hypnotic power to cloud men’s minds so that they cannot see him”. The opening to the show, “Who knows … what evil … lllllurks … in the heart of men? … The Shadow knows! His “friend and companion, the lovely Margo Lane, is the only person who knows to whom the voice of the invisible Shadow belongs”. Together they confront the maddest assortment of lunatics, sadists, ghosts and werewolves ever heard on the air. In this episode:
On a Caribbean island guest hotel owner Madam Jolan and beachcomber Timkins get a native to kill a wealthy man so they can steal his money and split it three ways. Then Timkins doesn't want to split the money three ways and cons the native in exchanging his wealth for a ring he calls the Mahlalayee ring telling him that it will grant him any wish he makes, even murder. When the native wishes a policeman dead by a broken neck and his wish is granted Madam Jolan thinks that Timkins must have done it and Timkins thinks that Madam Jolan had arrange it. Both deny it. Perhaps the ring really has evil powers...
