If I were feeling better, I probably could have ranted about this for over an hour. I didn't even get to the conceit of balance and how it is fundamentally impossible to balance drawbacks. The idea that D&D characters in a party are supposed to be equals to each other is an artifact of gaming that doesn't really apply to storytelling so I didn't delve into it much. I tried to keep my rant focused to the spells that might fix a paralyzed person.
Combat wheelchair is something I'd only allow in a heavy roleplaying game, with people who could actually roleplay.
