Mods are second to board games in how much they are under-studied and under-appreciated, especially when it comes to understanding adaptations. At this point there are probably more light saber mods on Steam than post-Disney Star Wars titles. And that's before talking about total conversions, which go in all kinds of wild directions and even spawn new games, or whole genres.
