out on the trail
one I have hiked a hundred times
maybe more
a pretty face
caught me by surprise
black hair black dress
and her blue eyes told no lies
and she said
there is a place
far beyond the brush
a cave a waterfall
and green grass ever lush
and there it was
right before my eyes
a paradise beyond the veil
once upon a trail
a gentle breeze
is blowin through the trees
my mind begins to feel at ease
and I could have sworn
that this was all for real
a paradise I could feel
and if I'd known that it was probably just a dream
I would have stayed there by the stream
my perfect place nestled in the shade
but who'd believe this far fetched tale
once upon a trail
don't you tell me my mind has deceived me
I know it sounds like fantasy
its real you'll see, you've got to believe
I swear it wasn't just a dream
and so I returned and I searched there with my friends
all up and down the canyons end
from dawn till dusk, much to no avail
no traces left that I could tell
it was once upon a trail
