I've played some pretty intense Playstation games over the years, but not many of them offer as much of a pure rush as "One". If I had to put a synopsis for the game, it would be "One is the personification of adrenaline". There is little to no story and everything happens before you have time to question the significance or relevance of it all. You play as John Cain, one really pissed off guy who doesn't know who he is or where he's from, but everybody under the sun wants him dead. Your only means to defend yourself is a cannon attached to your arm, a scant few power-ups, and a seemingly unlimited resevoir of unabridged rage. What the game lacks in depth or rhetoric it makes up for with non-stop action and lots of simple fun.

You will be attacked constantly and run for your life indefinitely, but you will also take down your fair share of assailants. The way you maintain your strength and stamina is unusual in and of itself. You kill people and smash stuff to refill your energy and as your color changes (green--yellow--red), your attacks become more vicious and your shots faster. When you're in the red so deep and John can't contain his anger anymore, you can unleash it to blow people to hell and back. It's quite a treat really. Actually, all the fictitious destruction is quite a treat. Sometimes, there's so much of it that you can hardly see where you're going and all the shattering debris and explosions can send sensitive folks into a seizure mode, so I would not recommend this if you're sensitive to flashing lights!!!

The levels are nicely designed and the visuals are pretty good for the time. Just look at the guys on fire! The only problem with this game would be some of the tricky platforming segments, which are some of the few times where you'll probably die in this game, and some would say it's short. Enjoy.
