Lufia: Rise of the Sinistrals, or Lufia 2 on the SNES is and was a supremely underrated title. This wasn't released in North America until May of 1996, just half a year shy of the N64, and with the PS1 already in circulation. Due to this most people overlooked this title due to the aging SNES system!

Because of this, many missed one of the best JRPGs of the 90s. This game was a prequel, which was HUGE to a Lufia and the Fortress of Doom fan to me, as that game cold opens at the end of Lufia II's storyline! Compared to Lufia 1, it has better combat, better equipment system with its IP Abilities, better spell targeting and selection, and better story and character development. Add to this one of the earliest examples of a game within a game in the roguelite Ancient cave, and the deep and clever puzzles in each dungeon and you have one of my top 5 SNES games of all time!
