This excellent variant sudoku by Thomas Snyder (Dr Sudoku/3 time World Sudoku Champion and reigning World Puzzle Champion) was voted best puzzle on www.gmpuzzle.com for 2018. It uses a combination of normal Sudoku rules and Star Battle - and that xmas tree shape at the start - Sensational!
