Online Saturday - Gundam Evolution - Trying The Online Multiplayer
0For this weeks Online Saturday i'm trying a new game. Gundam Evolution is a new free to play online multiplayer shooter that's out across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. I'm playing the PS4 version on my Japanese launch model.
Before this video, i had tried the game's tutorial and opened a loot box. So this video was my first time trying out the online multiplayer. Honestly, it didn't go too great. this is also a shorter video than normal due to waiting for a casual game.
Throughout the video i complain about things the game does compared to Splatoon 3. for example, when you try to join a match, there's little else you can do. whereas in Splatoon 3, you're able to try out the weapons in a set area. another issue i had was the loading times. i'm used to Splatoon 3 taking around 30 seconds or less to start a game, and once a game is finished there's a lobby. in Gundam Evolution, there were none of these things and it made the game feel very old, like the game design was maybe done during the PS3 generation. there was a disconnection and i don't hold that against the game. it happens in every online game i play.
But it looks good and it's somewhat fun. but i can't help but think that there's some wasted potential. i talk about how it feels to control the characters and how that the game doesn't really do enough. these are giant robots, but it kinda just feels like any other shooter. there's a lack of impact, a lack of speed and weight.
i probably will go back to it now and then. It doesn't replace Splatoon 3 as my favourite online multiplayer "Shooter" but i did find it more enjoyable than Overwatch 2.
