OoT: MST Speedrun in 2:03:41 (formerly 2nd place)
Obsolete PB for MST (2nd place as of 9/7/16). Solid run for it's time minus the wasteland. WR at the time was a 2:00:43, while N64 was 2 minutes slower than VC. This was N64 record at the time and the only top run played on N64. Was ahead of WR after DC.
For the time, this was a pretty good run, especially since I'd only really been grinding MST for a couple months, and this was before the practice rom. It was very hard to practice that way, but the results paid off.
Unfortunately my controller at the time was really wearing down and had a really messed up ESS range which is part of why I lost so much time there. Some N64 controllers get uneven once they wear down. ESS left might be tiny and right is huge, which was the problem here. Luckily I dug up a better controller soon after this run which would get me my 1:15:59 in No IM/WW. By October the controller would just randomly stop working. It's really the stupid sand pickles fault for knocking me into the void, although I didn't need to be standing so close to it either, so that was over a minute lost (would've just been 15 seconds if I rolled the rest). Also did 1 extra hover at spirit hover, I knew I was high enough but I did it anyway? No idea what that was about.
This was my all time favorite MST route, it was such a blast to grind because it felt in part like the old school MST route, but with some cooler optimizations. Newer routes are really cool now too, but I really liked when trials were done all at once into climbing up to Ganondorf, it just felt more complete this way.
This started off with a pretty solid child section, a few little errors. Lost a minute on Mirror Shield (to two wasteland voids), this being the biggest mistake in the run. Some of the trials were pretty sloppy too, and so was Fire Temple (which needs some movement updates, I for some reason thought hoverboots in the center room were faster) along with a bad Ganondorf split. Pretty good run at the moment for me otherwise, haven't put a ton of time into MST so it was unexpected to say the least.
Still planning on improvement. This is about the equivalent to a high 2:01 on VC, so it could've been a better run than record without the wasteland voids.
It's worth noting that my best segment for Ganondorf is glitched in this run, it will be fixed in further PBs.
