OBS is a free recording software that can be used to record (or live stream) videos with good quality videos that take up little hard drive space. This video is a full tutorial from the beginning to the end of how to use OBS to record game play. Here is the OBS site: http://obsproject.com/

Best to watch this video in 720p or 1080p resolutions.

Just as a point of reference: 720p at 30 fps for 1 minute yields a ~30 MB file. So 1 GB roughly means 33 minutes of recordings at said resolution.

Note that instead of playing at 1080p and downscaling the recording to 720p, you can play at 1080p and record at 720p (no downscaling). Also, you can play at 1080p and record at 720p (without downscaling; saves a few FPS but gives worse legibility on some recorded texts/words/sentences).

I believe that if you want to record at a lower resolution without using downscaling, you can input the desired resolution in the "Base Resolution" boxes (you might have to tell your source to stretch image to screen).

The weird effect that occurred sometimes when I clicked was a product on the screen capture I was using. I didn't notice it until too late, but it's not really all that bad.

I guess I should note that whenever you want to record something, you HAVE to have OBS running. So just double click on the OBS icon on your desktop, start menu, or elsewhere, and then play your game.

So yeah, if you have any questions just contact me, or someone, or someone else.

P.S. If you're at all curious about the designs in the top-right and bottom-right of the thumbnail image for this video, they are simply dented polar inversions of the OBS logo.

EDIT:
Are you having issues that when you record all you see is a black screen, but the sound still records? Easy fix: EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU START A GAME, Alt-Tab out of the game, go to the source, right click it, properties, and reselect the game (even though it's probably already selected), and hit okay. 99.9% of the time, this works.
