Elden Ring is a LOT of fun to play, but it left me wanting more from the game. Not in terms of content, but more in terms of uniqueness. While Bloodborne shared basic mechanics with the Souls series, it feels like a truly unique idea overall. A Bloodborne franchise (if there ever was one) would continue to set itself apart from the Souls game. Sekiro is the same way. It shares some foundational aspects with the Souls series, but the combat and setting make it unique. Elden Ring, on the other hand, feels like a progression of the Souls series, rather than its own thing. It feels like Dark Souls 3 with Sekiro elements, but set in an open world sandbox. The sandbox feels like the unique aspect, which is awesome, but the core gameplay is very much Dark Souls 3.

Regardless of that criticism, Elden Ring is setting itself up to be a fantastic adventure that I am very excited for!
