Following a lukewarm run in theaters in 1990, The Rescuers Down Under found surprising success on Home Video in the Summer of 1991, a year dominated by movies such as Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, selling approximately 6 million copies in North America. Unlike most of it's contemporaries, this film would be added into the Non-Limited Classics line alongside Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland. and the Sword in the Stone (among others) and would remain there until the distribution line was changed in the year 2001.
