Ori and the Blind Forest: Part 5 - Burning Distraction
Today we get distracted by by flaming slimes and angry pill-bug things.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a 2D platformer by Moon studios. The forest of Nibel is watched over by a massive tree-being known as the Spirit Tree, you play as Ori a light/spirit being that gets separated from the Spirit Tree during a storm, and then adopted by Naru, a loving denizen of the forest. Life is good for Ori and Naru, until a great evil attacks the Spirit Tree and causes all the forest to wither and die. Now it's up to Ori to save their beloved home and restore life to the forest of Nibel.
Ori and the Blind Forest is most definitely going down as one of my games of the year. It is simply magical! This metroidvania styled platformer utilizes an ability tree that allows you to access things like stronger attacks or gain more health pickups (useful to people like me). As you progress you come across ancestral trees, which are the resting places of your fellow spirit-beings; from these you gain access to skills, such as double jump, that allow you to reach parts of the map you previously weren't able to.
The hand-painted artwork is absolutely stunning and varied, with very visually distinct areas despite being set mostly in a forest. The music is absolutely wonderful and I love listening to it on its own, and the is very touching. Overall, this game is very worth a play-through.
