Original Poem Recital - On the Outside Looking In
A poem that combines two different sensations. The first is when you pass by some sort of party and can hear all the laughter, the music, the clinking of glasses, but you have to walk past.
The second is when you're in that room, but whether it's due to being socially awkward, or a moment of embarrassment, you're wishing you were outside.

Outside Looking In
-------------------------------
A framed scene of a party
A spill of honeyed light
The noise,
a hubbub of conversation
A diverse nation
of opinion and
delectation
I pass, silent, unseen
A shadow, a wraith
A spectre in the scene
An oath taken on faith
Wistfully wishing
To be there, one of them
One of the throng
The jukebox, a song
To lipsync silently along
The reality, a corner
alone in a crowd
or retelling jokes badly
A punchline ruined
Puzzled stares
A discreet cough
I shuffle off
To pander, an embarrassment
A quixotic drink unsipped
Trapped, on the inside,
looking out, to slip out
Night's anonymous embrace,
the kiss of rain on upturned face
Silence descends, its calm comfort
The storm stilled in my manic mind
